As incredible as it is, becoming a mum can be all-consuming. It can easily feel like it's your entire identity. I started exploring ceramics years ago while living in Portugal, and it quickly became a way for me to create an identity outside of motherhood. As I navigated pregnancy, pregnancy loss, becoming a mother and postpartum depression, ceramics became a way to create something tangible that mirrored this internal journey of creation and also of loss. A time that often felt lonely and isolated became a positive experience, a space of creativity, experimentation, and of nurturing my soul.
I hope my work reflects this appreciation of life, bringing so much joy to anyone choosing an Ede Ceramics piece!
I'm Kelsey, a mum of two little humans and a ceramicist based in Cape Town.
I left a career in corporate to explore a slower life and my artistic side, having always wanted to lean into pottery to do so.
I am a nurturer, a lover of art, a dreamer, and an extroverted introvert. I love hearing people's stories, reading fiction, and spending time with my friends and family (including our dogs!)
I love to explore and experiment with clay, and I particularly love creating vases.
My goal has always been to create individual and unique pieces. Each piece will always be one-of-a-kind, and tell not just my story but that of their own journey.
Custom orders and commissions are always welcome!
